Let's be real: a 2.2 IMDb rating is almost impressively bad. The Masked Singer franchise can be mindless fun in its best iterations (the US version hovers around 5-6/10), but this Austrian adaptation from 2020 appears to have missed the mark entirely.
The format is inherently safe—celebrities in elaborate costumes singing while judges guess their identities. No violence, no inappropriate content, just sequins and vocal performances. But safety doesn't equal watchability.
The core problem: unless your family speaks German and follows Austrian celebrities, this will be completely unengaging. The whole appeal of The Masked Singer is recognizing voices and getting excited about reveals. When you don't know who anyone is, it's just... people in animal costumes singing.
Add to that what appears to be poor production quality (based on that rating), and you've got a show that's technically fine for kids but realistically unwatchable. There are dozens of better singing competition shows that won't make you question your life choices. If your kids want masked performers, try the US version or literally any other franchise adaptation with better reviews.
