This is a rare gem where the theme and the mechanics actually shake hands and agree to be great together. It’s built on the bones of 7 Wonders Duel (one of the best 2-player games ever made) but adds enough Middle-earth flavor to make it feel fresh.
It’s the perfect antidote to 'brain rot' screen time. It requires focus, tactical pivoting, and a bit of luck. If you have two people and 30 minutes, this is arguably the best way to spend that time in 2025.
While the box says 10+, a sharp 8 or 9-year-old who has played a few modern board games will pick this up easily. It's sophisticated enough that adults will want to play it long after the kids go to bed.

It's a tabletop game for two. No hidden costs, no toxic chat, and the 'violence' is entirely abstract—moving little plastic units and flipping cards. The most dangerous thing here is a paper cut.
Excellent for developing multi-track thinking. You have to monitor three different victory conditions at once, teaching kids how to pivot strategy when one path is blocked.
