The Evil Dead is the ultimate 'shoestring budget' success story. It's gross, it's inventive, and it's still surprisingly mean-spirited for a 45-year-old movie. It isn't for everyone—and that tree scene is a permanent black mark for many—but if your kid is a budding filmmaker, this is their textbook.
It’s a classic for a reason, but the 'dated' factor is real. Some of the stop-motion looks like a school project now, which can either be charming or a total immersion-breaker depending on the kid.
