Don't let the soft title fool you or slip onto your middle-schooler's Kindle. The Butterfly Garden by Dot Hutchison is a grim, graphic adult thriller about a deeply disturbed man who abducts young women, tattoos elaborate wings onto their backs, and eventually murders them to keep as preserved specimens in an enclosed compound.

Told through FBI interrogation transcripts with a traumatized survivor, the story deals heavily with sexual assault, forced captivity, and severe psychological trauma. It is strictly adult fiction. If your kid is looking for books about nature or butterflies, make sure they don't accidentally grab this one off a shared library app.
