Terminator Salvation is the cinematic equivalent of a gray shrug. It was an attempt to turn a tight sci-fi horror franchise into a gritty war trilogy, and it mostly just ended up being a movie where people hide in ruins and look tired.
If your kid has already seen the first two and is obsessed with the lore, go for it. Otherwise, this is one of the most skippable entries in the series. It lacks the humor, the heart, and the iconic 'slasher' tension that made the originals legendary.
