Before Halloweentown or Zenon established the polished Disney Channel Original Movie formula, Susie Q set the baseline in 1996. It follows Zach, a teenager moving into a new town who discovers he is the only one who can see Susie, a teenage ghost killed in a car wreck 40 years earlier. She needs his help finding a missing document to save her elderly grandparents from eviction.
It is wholesome, totally safe, and hits every expected beat of 90s kid TV. Amy Jo Johnson brings plenty of energy to the titular ghost, making the central friendship sweet and believable.
That said, time has not been particularly kind to the technical side. The low-budget mid-90s video look and slow scene transitions mean today's kids might find it pretty dated. If your family loves retro 90s throwbacks, it's a cozy watch, but it won't hold the attention of kids who demand high-energy visuals.
