Stellaris is basically 'Civilization' in space with the training wheels ripped off. It’s a brilliant, massive, and occasionally cold strategy game that rewards the kind of kid who likes to organize their LEGOs by piece type and color. If your kid is into sci-fi and has the patience for a game that doesn't provide instant gratification, this is a gold mine.
Be aware that it is a 'spreadsheet game' at heart. There is a lot of reading and a lot of math involved. It’s the opposite of brain rot; it’s a total brain workout, provided they don't get sucked into playing a space-tyrant for too long without a reality check.
