If your teen is deep into the Shatter Me rabbit hole, this is a non-negotiable read. Kenji Kishimoto is essentially the patron saint of the 'loyal best friend' trope, and seeing his internal struggle with leadership and loneliness is actually quite moving.
It’s not going to change the world, and it’s definitely 'fan service' in the best way possible, but it’s a high-quality companion piece that avoids the 'boring filler' trap most novellas fall into. Just don't hand it to someone who hasn't read the first four books—they'll be hopelessly lost in the dystopian sauce.
