Schmigadoon! on Broadway takes the first season of the Apple TV+ series and turns it into the big, old-fashioned musical it was spoofing. Melissa and Josh, two New York doctors whose relationship is stalling, get lost on a couples' retreat and wander into Schmigadoon, a town where everyone bursts into song and nobody leaves until they find true love.
Cinco Paul wrote the book and score, keeping songs from the show and adding new ones, and Christopher Gattelli directed and choreographed. It opened at the Nederlander Theatre on April 20, 2026, and won four Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book and Best Original Score. Booking runs into April 2027.
The production recommends 10 and up, and that is about right. The innuendo is constant and the relationship talk is grown-up, but most of the double meanings sail over a 10-year-old, who will be busy enjoying a full-size Broadway dance show.
