RollerCoaster Tycoon is one of those rare games that's actually educational without feeling like homework. Kids learn budgeting, customer service, basic physics, and strategic planning while building theme parks and designing coasters. It's safe, creative, and has zero predatory features—no ads, no in-app purchases, no toxic chat.
The catch? It's from 1999. The graphics are blocky, the UI is clunky, and kids raised on Fortnite and Minecraft may bounce off the dated presentation. But if your kid has patience, likes building/management games, or has ever begged you for one more ride at Disneyland, this could hook them. The gameplay itself is timeless—it's just wrapped in a package that screams "I was made when dial-up was cutting-edge."
The newer versions (RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic, RCT3) smooth out some rough edges while keeping the core magic. But even the 1999 original remains a legitimate learning tool disguised as entertainment. Just manage expectations about the graphics.
