My 13-year-old knows Leon Kennedy from Fortnite. Is Resident Evil: Requiem similar?

Not at all. While Fortnite uses Leon as a harmless visual skin, Resident Evil: Requiem is an intense M-rated survival horror game filled with graphic dismemberment, disturbing creatures, and hyper-realistic violence.

Can you turn off the blood and gore in the settings?

No. While the game offers standard visual and control accessibility features, there is no setting to disable the visceral gore, violence, or horror elements.

Does this game have unmoderated online chat or predatory microtransactions?

No. Requiem is a single-player story campaign. There are no online chat rooms, loot boxes, or pushy microtransaction storefronts to worry about.

Is watching a YouTube walkthrough of Requiem as intense as playing it?

Visually, yes. While watching someone else play eliminates the stress of controlling the character, the graphic dismemberment and horror visuals remain identical to playing the game directly.

Where to Play

Screenwise Verdict

If you are an adult looking for high-end survival horror, Resident Evil: Requiem is a masterclass in tension. Capcom weaves Grace Ashcroft's slow, claustrophobic investigation with Leon S. Kennedy's classic action-heavy gunplay seamlessly. It looks stunning, runs smoothly, and respects the player's intelligence with tight environmental puzzles and strict ammo conservation.

That said, this is an ESRB Mature-rated title in every sense. The visual realism pushes gore and body horror into deeply unsettling territory. If your middle schooler or high schooler is begging for it because of a recent stream or Fortnite crossover, know that this is not cartoonish zombie-zapping. It is intense horror engineered to rattle adults.

Age Fit

Strictly for mature teens (17+) and adults. The graphic violence, nightmare-inducing creature design, and visceral gore make this entirely inappropriate for middle schoolers or younger kids.

WISE Breakdown

Wholesome

Packed with graphic body horror, visceral dismemberment, relentless terror, and dark adult themes typical of the survival horror genre.

Imaginative

Features intricate level design, clever environmental logic puzzles, and an engaging dual-protagonist narrative structure.

Safe

Explicit M-rated content with extreme violence, high-fidelity gore, intense jumpscares, and strong language. Lacks predatory microtransactions, but visual violence is extreme.

Enriching

Promotes spatial memory, resource management, and quick tactical decision-making under intense pressure, though built strictly as mature horror entertainment.

Relentless tension and jumpscares designed specifically to evoke psychological anxiety.

Conversation Starters

"How does having scarce ammo change the way you approach enemies compared to standard action shooters?"
"Why do you think gaming content creators use exaggerated reactions when streaming horror games?"
"What makes a puzzle in a game feel satisfying versus frustrating?"

Deep Dive

The Crossover Dilemma

Resident Evil is having a massive moment, driven by Capcom's steady stream of remakes and high-profile crossover marketing in games like Fortnite. Because of that exposure, younger kids frequently recognize characters like Leon Kennedy long before they ever set foot in a mainline horror game.

Requiem splits its campaign between Grace Ashcroft — whose segments play like classic, low-ammo, slow-burn horror — and Leon Kennedy, whose levels double down on kinetic shooter action. Mechanically, it works brilliantly. The spatial puzzles require real focus, inventory management is a tense mini-game in its own right, and the audio design builds genuine dread without relying solely on cheap jump scares.

Secondary Exposure via YouTube and Twitch

Even if you hold a firm line against M-rated games on your home console, keep an eye on secondary exposure. The main avenue kids encounter Requiem isn't on their own PS5 or Xbox — it's through let's-play videos and live streams. Streamers often ham up their reactions for the camera, but the gameplay footage on screen remains unfiltered body horror.

For a mature 17-year-old who handles horror well, Requiem offers top-tier design and problem-solving under pressure. For anyone younger, steer them toward cooperative sandbox builders or less graphic action games.
