Peach Finally Gets Her Flowers
For years, Peach has been the trophy at the end of the castle. In Showtime!, she’s the one doing the heavy lifting, and she does it with a theatrical flair that feels distinct from the typical Mario Bros. vibe. Developed by Good-Feel (the same team behind the tactile-looking Yoshi’s Woolly World), the game has a tangible, handmade theater aesthetic that makes every level a joy to look at.
The Transformation Hook
The game is built around the Sparkle Theater, where a villain named Grape has hijacked the shows. Peach teams up with a ribbon named Stella to take the roles back. The transformations aren't just cosmetic; they change the genre of the game. Swordfighter Peach is a basic hack-and-slash; Detective Peach is a point-and-click mystery; Patissiere Peach is basically a rhythmic baking mini-game.
This variety is the game's greatest strength for younger kids. If they get bored with one style of play, the next level offers something completely different. According to the ESRB, the E10+ rating is mostly for 'mild fantasy violence,' but in practice, it’s closer to a standard 'E' for Everyone experience.
A Note on Value and Difficulty
If you're looking for a game that will last months, this isn't it. It’s a relatively short experience, and for seasoned gamers, it’s almost trivially easy. However, for a parent, that lack of friction is a feature, not a bug. It’s a game your kid can likely play independently without asking you to 'beat the boss' for them every twenty minutes. If you want to extend the life of the game, encourage them to find the hidden 'Sparkle Gems' in each level, which adds a layer of exploration that requires a bit more focus.
