Pretty Smart is the kind of show that gets greenlit because Netflix needs content, not because anyone had a burning creative vision. It's a paint-by-numbers sitcom: uptight girl meets free-spirited friends, cue the life lessons and laugh track.

The problem? It's just not very good. Critics gave it 40% on Rotten Tomatoes, and even the audience score (71%) feels generous. The jokes are stale, the characters are archetypes, and the whole thing was canceled after one season—so if you're looking for a satisfying arc or any kind of payoff, you're out of luck.

For teens 13+, it's harmless enough—some sex talk, some drinking, but nothing shocking or traumatic. That said, there are about a thousand better shows you could watch instead. If your kid is drawn to it because they loved Emily Osment in Hannah Montana, fine, but set expectations low. This is background noise, not appointment television.
