Before Without Limits came out a year later with a bigger budget, Prefontaine gave us Jared Leto as Oregon's famous distance running rebel. It gets the track action right and captures the sheer arrogance that made Pre both an icon and a polarizing figure in American sports.
While the movie leans into TV-biopic pacing, the underlying story about an elite athlete fighting the oppressive American Amateur Athletic Union holds up. Just prepare your kid for a sobering final third that covers both the 1972 Munich Olympics tragedy and Pre's death at 24.
