Screenwise Verdict

Look, this show exists because Peacock needed content and someone thought "What if we gave that obnoxious guy from Pitch Perfect his own show in Germany?" The result is exactly as inspired as that pitch sounds.

With a 46% on both Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic, critics were not impressed. It's safe, it's harmless, it's forgettable. The 6.4 IMDb rating and 73% audience score tell you it's not offensively bad—just aggressively mediocre. If you have a tween who's obsessed with the Pitch Perfect franchise and has already rewatched the movies seventeen times, sure, throw this on. Otherwise, there are about a thousand better ways to spend your screen time.

It won't hurt anyone, but it also won't particularly delight, inspire, or engage anyone who isn't already invested in Bumper Allen's journey. Which, let's be honest, is approximately nobody.

Age Fit

Best for tweens (12+) and teens who enjoyed the Pitch Perfect films and want more a cappella-adjacent content. The 73% audience score suggests existing fans find it passably entertaining, but it's not appointment viewing for anyone.

WISE Breakdown

Wholesome

A fish-out-of-water comedy that leans on gentle humor and personal growth. Bumper's journey from has-been to hopeful artist models persistence, though the show relies on some typical sitcom meanness and romantic misunderstandings. The tone is generally light and cooperative, with characters supporting each other's dreams, but it's not particularly deep or emotionally resonant.

Imaginative

This is a spinoff of a spinoff concept—taking a side character from Pitch Perfect and dropping him in Berlin. The premise is formulaic (American abroad, music dreams, culture clash) with little originality. It doesn't invite creative thinking or exploration; it's standard sitcom fare that plays it safe with predictable fish-out-of-water tropes and rom-com beats.

Safe

Common Sense Media rates it 12+, suggesting mild content appropriate for tweens and up. As a Peacock comedy spinoff, it likely contains some adult humor, mild language, and romantic situations, but nothing graphic or traumatic. The low critic scores suggest it's inoffensive if uninspired. No red flags for surprise violence, gore, or inappropriate content that would shock a tween viewer.

Enriching

Limited enrichment value. The show touches on themes of second chances and cultural adaptation, but with a 46% critic score on both RT and Metacritic, it's clearly not delivering meaningful insights or sophisticated storytelling. The 73% audience score suggests it's passably entertaining for fans of the franchise, but it's not building skills, expanding worldviews, or offering much beyond light distraction.

⚠

What to Watch For

Mild adult humor and romantic situations appropriate for tweens but not younger kids
The critical consensus is clear: this is mediocre television that even critics who wanted to like it found forgettable
If your kid hasn't seen the Pitch Perfect movies, they'll have zero connection to Bumper and won't care about his journey

"Have you ever felt like you missed your chance at something? How would you handle getting a second shot?"
"What do you think would be hardest about moving to a country where you don't speak the language?"
