Let's be crystal clear: Pearl is not for kids. Not for young teens. Not even for most older teens unless they're genuine horror fans who've proven they can handle intense, graphic content.
That said, if you're an adult who loves psychological horror or you have a 17+ who's into the genre, this is actually excellent filmmaking. Ti West created something visually gorgeous and genuinely unsettling, with Mia Goth giving a performance that's both captivating and terrifying. The 93% critic score isn't hype—it's a well-crafted film.
But the violence is severe (animal cruelty will upset many viewers), the sexual content is explicit, and the psychological descent is disturbing. This belongs in your "adult horror night" queue, not anywhere near the family movie roster. If your teen is asking to see it, have an honest conversation about whether they're ready for content that includes graphic gore and mature themes.
For Screenwise purposes, this scores low because it's utterly inappropriate for the families we serve. But for what it is—adult horror—it's well-executed.
