Outlander is a masterpiece of the genre, but don't let the pretty covers fool you. It’s a massive, 800-page commitment that is as violent as it is romantic.
For parents looking for a binge-worthy read for themselves, this is gold. For your teenagers? Absolutely not. Between the graphic sexual content and the harrowing scenes of assault toward the end, this is a book that requires a fully developed adult brain to process.
It’s a great example of how 'romance' doesn't always mean 'light.' It’s a gritty, well-researched historical epic that just happens to have a very handsome Scotsman at the center of it.
