Outer Range is that show your friend recommends when you say you want something 'weird and different'—and they're not wrong, but they should probably mention it's also dark, violent, and requires serious patience.
The premise is genuinely intriguing: a rancher discovers a mysterious void on his property and things get cosmically strange. It's imaginative and asks big questions. But this is adult entertainment through and through, with the kind of intensity and violence you'd expect from a thriller about desperate people facing the unknowable.
For parents, this is a hard pass for family viewing. Even for older teens, you'll want to preview it yourself first. The slow burn pacing and abstract storytelling mean it's not exactly binge-worthy anyway—this is more 'prestige TV for patient adults' than anything kids would seek out or benefit from watching.
