The Nintendo Switch App is a 'nice-to-have' utility that becomes a 'must-have' if your kid is deep into Nintendo's online ecosystem. It’s essentially a bridge between their gaming life and their mobile life, handled with Nintendo’s typical (and sometimes frustrating) level of caution.
It’s not an app they’ll spend hours 'scrolling,' which is a win. It’s a tool they’ll check for two minutes to see which Splatoon maps are in rotation or to download a cool new Smash stage. If you're okay with them being on the console, the app doesn't add much additional risk, provided you've talked about voice chat etiquette.
