If you only know the movie, you’re missing about 70% of the story. This manga is Miyazaki’s magnum opus. It’s beautiful, it’s dense, and it treats kids like they have the brainpower to handle complex ecological politics.
It’s not 'easy' reading, but it’s the kind of book that stays on a shelf for a lifetime. If your kid is into 'Wings of Fire' or 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' and wants something with more meat on its bones, this is the gold standard. It hasn't aged a day since 1984.
