Mr. Mom wants to be a heartwarming comedy about role reversal, but it's trapped in 1983's gender politics and sitcom pacing. The premise—dad stays home, mom goes to work—could be interesting, but the execution relies entirely on 'men are incompetent at domestic life' jokes that feel stale and reductive even by '80s standards.
The bigger issue: this is marketed as family-friendly, but there's a whole male strip club sequence, workplace flirtation, and enough profanity that you'll be side-eyeing the PG rating. It's not traumatizing, but it's not what you signed up for either.
For modern kids, this is a tough sell. The pacing drags, the humor doesn't land, and the gender stereotypes are more cringe than funny. If you're looking for a conversation starter about gender roles or economic stress, you could do worse—but you could also just talk about it without sitting through 91 minutes of vacuum gags. Skip unless you're a completist for '80s Keaton.
