Here's the thing: Mr. Mayor isn't bad, it's just... unnecessary. Ted Danson is delightful, and there are moments that land, but this feels like the Parks & Rec creators on autopilot. The IMDb 6.4 and Metacritic 54 are spot-on—it's aggressively fine.
For families, it's a safe option if your teen wants to watch something with you that isn't cringey, but nobody's going to remember this show in five years. It got canceled after two seasons, which tells you everything. If you want a workplace comedy about public service, just rewatch Parks & Rec. If you want Ted Danson being charming, watch The Good Place.
It's the TV equivalent of a participation trophy: present, inoffensive, forgettable.
