Monsters University is the dependable Pixar sequel that delivers exactly what you'd expect—quality animation, heart, humor, and a message about finding your path. It's not as innovative as the original Monsters, Inc., but it's a solid family movie that won't waste your time.
The friendship arc between Mike and Sulley is genuinely well-done, and the 'you can't always be what you dream, but you can find where you belong' message is refreshingly realistic for a kids' movie. The underdog sports movie structure is predictable, but Pixar executes it with enough charm and visual creativity to keep everyone engaged.
Younger kids might zone out during the college-specific humor and plot points, but nothing will scare or confuse them. Older elementary kids will get more out of the themes and probably relate to the academic pressure and friendship dynamics. It's a great rainy day pick that parents can actually enjoy watching too.
