Screenwise Verdict

Miracle Workers is a solid, quirky comedy that punches above its weight with creative premises and strong performances. Each season reinvents itself—Heaven's bureaucracy, Dark Ages pilgrims, Old West road trip—which keeps things fresh.

But let's be clear: this is not family viewing. The humor is irreverent, sometimes crude, and peppered with sexual references and language. Common Sense Media's 13+ rating is spot-on. It's the kind of show where teens might enjoy it with parents who have a sense of humor about religion and history being lampooned.

The WISE score reflects that it's imaginative and entertaining but not particularly wholesome or enriching. It's not going to teach your kid much beyond 'bureaucracy is absurd' and 'Daniel Radcliffe has good comic timing.' If you're looking for thoughtful family comedy, this isn't it. If you want something clever and funny for older teens or yourself, it delivers.

Age Fit

This is squarely for older teens (13+) and adults. The humor is too sophisticated and raunchy for younger kids, but teens who enjoy quirky comedy like The Good Place or Brooklyn Nine-Nine might appreciate it. Adults looking for light, clever comedy will find it entertaining without being groundbreaking.

WISE Breakdown

Wholesome

Miracle Workers is a comedy anthology series starring Daniel Radcliffe and Steve Buscemi. While it's generally lighthearted with themes of cooperation and kindness (angels trying to save humanity, pilgrims starting a colony, etc.), it's adult-oriented comedy with irreverent humor, some crude jokes, and occasional language. The tone is quirky rather than mean-spirited, but it's definitely not modeling wholesome behavior in a traditional sense—it's satirical and sometimes absurdist. The pacing is reasonable and not chaotic, but the humor can be awkward and cringe-inducing at times.

Imaginative

The anthology format is genuinely creative—each season reimagines the cast in completely different settings (Heaven's bureaucracy, Dark Ages pilgrims, a road trip through the American West, etc.). The premise is original and invites viewers to think about familiar concepts (religion, history, society) through a comedic lens. It doesn't invite direct participation or creative expression, but it's conceptually inventive and rewards curiosity about how the show will reinvent itself each season.

Safe

This is where Miracle Workers loses points for family viewing. Common Sense Media rates it 13+, which tracks. The show contains moderate language, sexual references and innuendo, some crude humor, occasional drug/alcohol references, and mild violence played for laughs. Nothing graphic or traumatizing, but there's definitely content that would be inappropriate for younger kids to stumble upon. It's not a 'surprise gore' situation, but parents would need to preview episodes. The humor is sometimes raunchy and the show doesn't shy away from adult themes, even if handled comedically.

Enriching

Miracle Workers is entertaining but not particularly enriching. It offers some light social commentary and satirizes bureaucracy, religious institutions, and American history, which could spark conversations. However, it's primarily designed for laughs rather than deep insight. The show is clever and well-acted, with solid comedic performances, but it's not going to teach much or build meaningful skills. Entertainment value is solid (hence the decent RT and IMDb scores), but don't expect profound takeaways beyond 'that was funny.'

Why It Might Be Great

Genuinely creative anthology format—each season is a completely different story with the same cast playing new characters
Strong comedic performances from Radcliffe, Buscemi, and Geraldine Viswanathan that elevate the material
Smart satire of bureaucracy, religion, and American history that rewards attention without being preachy
Lighthearted and absurdist tone that doesn't take itself too seriously—good for unwinding

⚠

What to Watch For

Sexual references, innuendo, and crude humor throughout—definitely preview before watching with teens
Language and occasional drug/alcohol references that put this firmly in the 13+ category
Irreverent treatment of religious themes might not land well with more conservative families
Some episodes are stronger than others; the show can be uneven in quality

Conversation Starters

"What would you do if you worked in Heaven's complaint department and had to save the world?"
"The show makes fun of how organizations work—does that remind you of anything in real life?"
"Each season completely reinvents the story. If you could put these actors in any time period or setting, what would you choose?"
