If you only watch one version of A Christmas Carol with your kids, make it this one. Most adaptations get bogged down in the Victorian gloom or overstay their welcome with unnecessary musical numbers. This 1983 special is lean, mean, and eventually, incredibly kind.
It avoids the 'outdated' trap that catches a lot of 80s media because the animation is high-budget and the script is tight. It’s one of the few pieces of 'educational' media that doesn't feel like it's trying to teach you anything, yet it leaves kids with a better understanding of greed and empathy than a dozen modern 'lesson' shows.
