Mario Kart Wii is the platonic ideal of family-friendly gaming—colorful, competitive, and completely safe. It's the game that taught a generation of kids that friendship and Mario Kart cannot coexist in the same room.
The reality check: it's from 2008, and it shows. If you still have a Wii hooked up, this is a solid choice. But if you're deciding whether to buy a Wii just for this game? Hard pass. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Switch is the same concept with better everything—graphics, tracks, online play, and no need to dig out a 17-year-old console.
For families who already own it, though, this remains excellent. No predatory monetization, no toxic chat, just you, your kid, and the eternal debate over whether Rainbow Road is fun or psychological warfare.
