Magnum P.I. is the definition of 'background TV.' It’s bright, loud, and doesn't ask much of its audience. While it lacks the iconic charm of the 80s original, it leans hard into the modern action procedural formula with decent chemistry among the leads.
It’s not going to win any awards for deep storytelling, but for a family looking for a low-stakes action show that isn't as grim as modern crime dramas, it fits the bill. Just be prepared for a lot of Ferraris getting wrecked.
