Madagascar 3 is perfectly serviceable family entertainment—colorful, loud, and energetic enough to keep the kids occupied on a rainy afternoon. The friendship themes are genuine, the circus setting is visually fun, and that 'Afro Circus' song is legitimately catchy (apologies in advance).
That said, this is the third lap around the track and the franchise is showing its age. The plot beats are predictable, the emotional stakes feel lower, and there's not much here that'll stick with kids beyond the runtime. It's cotton candy—sweet, bright, and gone quickly.
Capitaine DuBois is played as a cartoonish villain but she's pretty relentless in her pursuit, so gauge your kid's tolerance for that kind of intensity. Otherwise, it's standard DreamWorks fare: safe, loud, and fine. Not essential viewing, but not a bad choice when you need 93 minutes of distraction.
