Legend of Fei is comfort-food wuxia coasting on the massive charisma of its two leads, Zhao Liying and Wang Yibo. Adapted from the novel Bandits by famous web-novelist Priest, it follows Zhou Fei, a teenager raised in the secluded 48 Strongholds, as she steps into the chaotic martial arts world (jianghu) and teams up with the mysterious, endlessly chatty Xie Yun.
If you have a tween or teen who is getting into East Asian dramas, anime, or fantasy novels, this is an easy, low-stress green light. Because of Chinese television regulations, there is no sex, nudity, or swearing, and the violence—while constant—is all flying swords, pressure points, and dramatic blood-spitting rather than gruesome realism.
The catch is quality control. The production values are weirdly uneven for a big-budget show, with green-screen backgrounds and clunky editing that fans still complain about. It's not the sharpest martial arts drama ever made, but the central partnership is fun enough to carry a dedicated viewer through all 51 episodes.
