Jetpack Joyride is that rare mobile game that's still genuinely playable more than a decade later. It's simple, silly, and satisfying—Barry Steakfries flies through a lab on a stolen jetpack, you dodge lasers and missiles, and you try to beat your high score. The cartoonish violence is truly cartoonish (think Looney Tunes, not Call of Duty), and the upgrade system gives kids something to work toward without being manipulative.
The ESRB's E10+ rating is spot-on. The 'simulated gambling' descriptor refers to slot-machine-style bonus games, which is worth noting but not a dealbreaker—it's not predatory, just arcade-y. The bigger concern is the endless runner format itself, which is designed to keep you playing 'just one more round.' Set a timer, or your kid will look up and realize they've been playing for 45 minutes.
It's not going to teach your kid about the solar system or build their emotional intelligence, but it's solid for reflexes, hand-eye coordination, and learning to set goals (save up for that dragon upgrade!). A perfectly fine choice for screen time that won't rot anyone's brain.
