Cameron Crowe's 1996 blockbuster still hits hard because it treats business ethics and personal relationships as messy, high-stakes battlegrounds. Tom Cruise plays a charismatic sports agent who has an late-night crisis of conscience, writes a corporate manifesto about caring more for clients, and gets promptly dumped by his agency.
While famous for pop-culture catchphrases, the film works because of its grounded emotional core. Cuba Gooding Jr. brings electric energy as a receiver desperate for validation, and Renee Zellweger gives the story its soul as a single mom taking a massive leap of faith.
It is an adult film through and through. Between the constant profanity and an early explicit sexual encounter, this is one to save for older teens who can appreciate the nuances of career anxiety and personal integrity.
