NetherRealm's DC Revision
When NetherRealm Studios took on the DC license in 2013, they brought their signature fighting game feel along for the ride. The game trades Mortal Kombat's decapitations for over-the-top comic book physics—think Doomsday punching someone through the core of the Earth or Batman running an opponent over with the Batmobile. It keeps the Teen rating intact, but barely.
The Story Mode Formula
Unlike traditional fighting games that stash story in brief arcade mode text scrolling, Injustice delivers a full cinematic campaign. It introduces a world where the Joker tricks Superman into destroying Metropolis and killing Lois Lane. Driven mad by grief, Superman kills the Joker and establishes the One Earth Regime, declaring himself High Councilor. Batman leads the Insurgency, summoning heroes from a parallel universe where the tragedy never occurred to help take Superman down.
Combat & Mechanics
The game relies on a three-button attack structure paired with a unique character ability button (like Batman's mechanical bats or Superman's damage buff). Players can bounce enemies off environmental objects like cars, pipes, or missiles, throwing stage transitions into the middle of a match.
If your kid is asking to play, the main consideration isn't online interaction or predatory monetization—this original 2013 release predates modern battle passes and heavy microtransactions—it is purely the visual intensity and grim atmosphere.
