This isn't your standard, dry 'George Washington chopped a cherry tree' biography. Brad Meltzer has a gift for taking massive, complicated historical figures and making them feel like the kid next door.

It’s gritty because Malala’s life was gritty, but it’s handled with kid-gloves. This is an essential addition to a home library because it gives kids a much-needed dose of perspective. If your kid is complaining about math homework, read them this. It’s powerful, it’s beautiful, and it’s one of the best ways to introduce 'big world' problems without causing a nightmare.

Perfect for the 6-10 crowd. It’s a picture book format, so older teens will find it too 'babyish' and should grab her actual autobiography instead.
