I Am Legend is a solid post-apocalyptic thriller anchored by Will Smith's performance, but it's a rough watch. The emotional beats hit hard—especially Sam the dog, which you should absolutely know about before showing this to anyone—and the Darkseekers are legitimately scary.
The CGI hasn't aged gracefully, which can pull you out of the horror, but the empty New York scenes still impress. It's got real themes about loneliness, purpose, and humanity buried in the action, making it more thoughtful than typical zombie fare.
For families with mature teens who can handle intense content, it's worth watching—but go in knowing it's heavy, it's sad, and that dog scene will wreck you. If you can find the alternate ending, it's actually better. This isn't family movie night material unless your family is specifically into darker sci-fi.
