Brad Meltzer’s 'Ordinary People Change the World' series is the gold standard for biographies that don't suck for the elementary set.
It takes Billie Jean King—who might seem like ancient history to a kid—and makes her relatable by showing her as a child who just wanted to play. It's wholesome, informative, and doesn't pander. If you want your kid to understand that 'fairness' is something people actually had to fight for, this is a great start.
