Forget saving the galaxy. Matt Fraction's run on Hawkeye drops Clint Barton into a rundown Brooklyn apartment building where his main problems are slumlords, fixing his own TV, and defending his neighbors from Russian mobsters in tracksuits. It is grounded, wildly stylish, and remarkably human.
The real high point is the dynamic between Clint and Kate Bishop. Kate isn't a sidekick waiting for permission—she's a sharp, competent archer who spends half her time pulling Clint out of bad decisions. If your kid watched the Disney+ series, this volume is the exact comic material that inspired it, and the print comic is significantly better paced.
Keep in mind that this is a Teen-rated book. There's real action violence, blood, mob intimidation, and Clint cracking open beers on the roof. For readers around 12 and up ready for something punchier than middle-grade comics, it's one of the finest Marvel books of the past two decades.
