Look, Happy Feet Two isn't bad bad—it's just aggressively mediocre. The original had novelty (tap-dancing penguins! environmental themes!), but this sequel feels like it's going through the motions. The critics weren't wrong: 45% on Rotten Tomatoes tells you this is a "fine, I guess" movie for when your kid is home sick and you've exhausted every other option on Netflix.
The father-son storyline has heart, and the environmental message about climate change is well-intentioned, but it gets buried under noisy musical numbers and a chaotic plot involving a flying penguin cult leader (yes, really). It's safe, it's colorful, but it's also forgettable. If your kid loves penguins or the first Happy Feet, go for it. Otherwise, there are better animated films from 2011 (Rango, Kung Fu Panda 2) that are actually worth your time.
