Screenwise Verdict

Look, I wish I could tell you this is a hidden gem or a fun superhero romp your kids will love. But Green Lantern (2011) is... not great. It's the movie that made Ryan Reynolds swear off DC until Deadpool could make fun of it.

The concept is fantastic—a ring that turns your imagination into reality, an intergalactic police force, themes of courage and willpower. But the execution is a mess. The CGI looks like a video game cutscene from 2008, the villain is a scary but boring cloud, and the script is so thin you could see through it with X-ray vision. Critics savaged it (26% on Rotten Tomatoes), and audiences shrugged.

For kids 12 and up who are superhero-obsessed and need to complete their DC education, it's watchable—but barely. Younger kids will be scared by Parallax, and older kids will be bored by the plodding story. There are way better uses of 114 minutes. If your kid wants Green Lantern content, point them to the animated series instead.
