Gold Rush (or Malefiz) is a relic of a different era. It’s a step up from Sorry! or Trouble because you actually have some agency over how you block your opponents, but it still suffers from that 1960s design philosophy where the dice dictate everything.
It’s a perfectly safe, wholesome choice for a rainy afternoon at a cabin, but don't expect it to become the centerpiece of your family game night. It’s essentially 'Frustration: The Board Game,' and while that can be fun for a bit, the charm wears off once you’ve been stuck behind the same white block for ten turns in a row.
