If you missed Empire during its mid-2010s cultural peak, it plays like King Lear dropped straight into a record label board room. It's glossy, incredibly loud, and intensely dramatic. Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson chew through scenery with total commitment, making the central feud between Lucious and Cookie endlessly entertaining.
That said, this is purely prime-time soap opera territory. It moves fast, relies on shock value, and stacks mature themes high—from shootings and jailhouse beatings to heavy profanity and targeted homophobic slurs. For older teens interested in music production or dramatic TV, it's a wild ride, but it isn't family-room viewing for younger kids.
