Earthbound is the 'weird kid' of the gaming world that grew up to be a legend. It’s a turn-based RPG that ditches the swords and sorcery for baseball bats and bottle rockets. While the 16-bit graphics might look 'retro' to a kid raised on Roblox, the writing is sharper and more human than 90% of what’s on the market today.
It’s a slow burn, but it’s one of the few games that actually respects a kid's intelligence. It’s funny, deeply strange, and occasionally heartbreaking. If you can get them past the initial hurdle of old-school menu navigation, they'll find a story they'll remember for twenty years.
