Dobble (sold as Spot It! in North America) is that rare game that actually delivers on its "fun for the whole family" promise without making adults want to fake a phone call. The core mechanic is dead simple—spot the matching symbol between two cards—but the execution is clever enough that it works.
The real magic is in the math: every card shares exactly one symbol with every other card, which creates this perfect storm of "I see it!" moments. Games are fast, losses don't sting, and the chaos of everyone shouting at once is genuinely fun rather than annoying.
That said, it's not going to scratch any strategic itch. This is a reflex game, full stop. If your kid loves thinking three moves ahead, they'll find Dobble shallow. But if you need something that plays in 15 minutes, fits in a glove compartment, and can entertain both a first-grader and their teenage cousin, this is a solid pick.
The BGG rating of 6.5 is about right—it's good, not great. You'll play it a bunch, then it'll sit on the shelf for a while, then someone will pull it out at a party and everyone will remember why they liked it. At this price point and portability, that's plenty.
