If you grew up around the year 2000, this movie lives in your head as a hyperactive fever dream of dial-up tones, Smash Mouth, and digital monster evolution. For a modern kid, it's an absurdly loud anime mashup that barely makes narrative sense because American studio executives literally stitched three distinct Japanese short films together.
The middle act—directed by Mamoru Hosoda before he became a famed anime auteur—actually holds up as a slick, fast-paced battle against a rogue computer virus. But the rest of the runtime is a chaotic product of its era, crammed with pop-punk music, fart jokes, and rapid-fire dub jokes.
It works fine as background noise for an 8- or 9-year-old who loves monster fights, but don't expect a coherent story. Unless your family is specifically riding a wave of retro nostalgia, there are better animated features to spend 80 minutes on.
