Disney's animated Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw delivers exactly what fans expect: 75 minutes of Greg Heffley scheming, failing upward, and trying to avoid hard work. This round focuses on the tension between Greg and his dad, who threatens to ship him off to Spag Union military academy if he doesn't toughen up.
It is harmless comfort viewing for 8-year-olds, but it feels like a televised holiday special stretched into a feature film. The animation is clean, the physical comedy is lightweight, and Greg learns just enough of a lesson by the credits to keep parents from turning it off. If your kid reads the books, put it on while making dinner.
