Blue Valentine is a masterpiece of misery. It is expertly made and beautifully acted, but it is effectively the cinematic equivalent of a car crash in slow motion. It’s one of those films you watch once, acknowledge as brilliant, and then never want to see again.
For an intentional parent, this is a solo or partner-only watch. There is absolutely no world where this is appropriate for kids or even most teenagers, not just because of the nudity, but because the emotional weight is enough to flatten a house.
