John Stamos plays Marvyn Korn, an elite men's college basketball coach who gets fired for throwing a chair at an official and ends up coaching at an elite private girls' high school. It sounds like an eight-minute sitcom pitch from 1994, but David E. Kelley gives the premise enough dramatic weight and emotional honesty to make it work.

The show succeeds because it does not instantly fix Korn. He is prickly, insensitive, and bad at reading rooms. The high school players do not fawn over his resume; they push back when he tries old-school intimidation tactics. If your household wants a sports drama that avoids pure Disney fluff while staying well within PG territory, this is a very watchable pick for middle schoolers.
