This is a perfectly fine middle school movie that does what it says on the tin: friendship drama, bat mitzvah planning, boy crushes, social media anxiety. Critics appreciated its cultural authenticity and heart, but the audience scores tell the real story—it's kind of forgettable.
The bat mitzvah setting is genuinely refreshing and the family dynamics feel real, but the plot is paint-by-numbers teen comedy. If your tween is in the thick of middle school social warfare, this might feel validating or might feel like salt in the wound, depending on their day.
It's not unwatchable, but it's also not appointment viewing. The Sandler family project vibe is sweet, and there are worse ways to spend 103 minutes on Netflix, but don't expect it to become a classic. Solid C+ movie that'll entertain tweens once and never get rewatched.
