The Tiger Rising is essentially a 120-page emotional workout. It’s from 2001, but unlike a lot of stuff from that era, it hasn't aged a day because grief and loneliness don't have an expiration date.
Kate DiCamillo doesn't pull punches. She knows kids can handle big, messy feelings, and she respects them enough to tell a story where everything isn't fixed with a magic wand at the end. It’s the opposite of brain rot; it’s soul food.
If your kid is sensitive about animals, maybe skip it or read it with them. But if you want a book that actually sparks a real conversation about life, this is a must-read.
