The Star is exactly what it looks like: a G-rated, faith-based animated take on the Nativity with talking animals and mild slapstick. It's perfectly pleasant for the 5-9 crowd, especially if your family celebrates Christmas and wants something that reinforces the religious story.
That said, it's not breaking any new ground. Critics gave it a collective shrug (45% on Rotten Tomatoes), and even kid-focused audiences were lukewarm (2.6/5 on Letterboxd). The humor is gentle, the animation is fine, and the 86-minute runtime won't test anyone's patience—but it also won't stick with you after the credits roll.
If you need a safe, wholesome holiday movie for young kids that won't make you cringe, this fits the bill. Just don't expect Pixar-level storytelling or anything that'll resonate beyond its target demo.
