The Bateman Factor
It is almost impressive how much Teen Wolf Too manages to fail while having a young Jason Bateman as its lead. Bateman plays Todd Howard, the cousin of the original's Scott Howard, who heads to college on a boxing scholarship he doesn't deserve. When the family 'curse' kicks in, he becomes a star athlete and a campus celebrity.
If that sounds familiar, it's because it is the exact plot of the first movie, just moved from a high school gym to a college boxing ring. The film lacks the heart of the original and feels like a production that was rushed to capitalize on a trend that had already peaked.
Why It Doesn't Work Now
Modern kids used to the fast-paced, high-stakes storytelling of Marvel or even modern Nickelodeon sitcoms will find this painfully slow. The jokes land with a thud, and the 'spectacle' of the werewolf transformation—which was impressive in 1985—looks like a high school theater project here.
There is a certain ironic enjoyment to be had for parents who grew up in the 80s, but as a standalone piece of media for a 2026 kid, it's a relic. If you want a werewolf story with actual teeth (or at least a better script), stick to the original or look for modern animated alternatives.
